My grand daughter turned 3 this past Christmas. Since this is the first year she’s lived with me, I wanted to do everything I could to make her day special. My friends at Oriental Trading helped make that happen and they are sponsoring today’s post by providing the items featured. Click the product photos to purchase any item.
Birthday On Christmas
My husband and I have a friend who was born on Christmas (and he’s a twin also!) and growing up he never felt like he had a real birthday. I thought about how to best celebrate her day, in the midst of the biggest holiday of the year. I decided to have Christmas for the first half of the day and then her birthday for the second half. I’ll outline how I planned the day for anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation.
If you follow me on Instagram, you saw this teaser post with all the birthday goodies I ordered from Oriental Trading. Every thing was reasonably priced and made to last, which is important to our family as I’m sure it is for yours.
Since we have two toddlers in our home, my husband & I decided not to put up our tree until they went to bed on Christmas Eve. Our 20 month old grandson is a very active little boy and we wouldn’t be able to keep him from destroying the tree, or trying to climb it. *lol*.
After we opened gifts we had breakfast. My husband always cooks breakfast for everyone on Christmas morning. We had scrambled eggs (egg beaters for me), bacon (vegetarian bacon for me), home fries and croissants.
The kids took a nap around 12:30 and we used that time to take down the tree. Yes, we had our tree up for less than 12 hours. *lol* That’s never happened before and I hope it never does again because we love having our tree up! On the plus side, not having the tree up was a good way to “finish Christmas” and move on to the birthday portion of the day. After they woke up from their nap my two daughters took them to the playground so my husband and I could decorate.
I was most excited to open this Cinderella Sparkle Backdrop because I wanted to use the bottom half in her room after her birthday was over.
The Cinderella Sparkle Swirl Decoration added a festive touch. We hung them all over the house, even her bedroom.
This Disney Princess Birthday Banner was a great value because the age was customizable! I don’t know about you but I save a lot of my party decorations to use again and this was a great find.
When they got home from the park, needless to say she was thrilled and excited. Her expression made all my planning worth it. My husband and I weren’t there when she was born or her first two birthdays so this was an extra special day for us as well.
Every birthday princess needs a tiara so when she walked in the door after being at the park, we put the Cinderella tiara on as the official start of her birthday celebration. 🎉 🎀 🎈
She quickly checked out the decorations in the kitchen, living room and her bedroom and then opened her gifts. She got a magnetic letter & number set, a play makeup kit (so she could “get ready” with her Aunt Jacqueline), plus some goodies for her room from Oriental Trading. I’ll share that in my toddler bedroom re-design series so keep a watch out for that.
For dinner, we feasted on our traditional Christmas dinner. Even though it was technically her birthday celebration we kept our menu plans the same.
- Lasagna with Billy’s homemade sauce
- Meatballs (organic beef)
- Italian sausage
- Garlic bread
After dinner she got to take a better look at all her decorations and gifts. She loved the pink polka dot balloons and was very interested in the pink streamers across the ceiling. With two little ones here I made sure to think “up” for decorating ideas.
Of course she was most excited about her cake! 🎂 🍰 A few days before we were talking about her birthday and I asked what kind of cake. She said “cake and strawberries“. So that’s what she got. 💕 🍓
