Nature walks are an excellent opportunity to spend quality time together as a family. It’s hard not
to be drawn to things nature leaves lying around. If you and your kids have a
tendency to come home from nature walks with a treasure trove of natural goodies and no idea
what to do with them, here are some quick and simple nature crafts to put them to good use.
Simple Nature Crafts
Pinecone bird feeder
Bring nature right to your window with a simple bird feeder. Tie some twine around a
pine cone then slather a mixture of peanut butter and oats all over it, filling in as many cracks as
possible. Pour some bird seed onto a place and roll your sticky pinecone all around in it. Tie it
up somewhere you can see it easily and wait for all your feathery friends to come and enjoy!
Grab a twig that’s about a foot long and fairly straight. Using glue and twine, attach
items to the end of it to appear like a wand. Items could be evergreen leaves, feathers, flowers,
weeds, grass, etc. You could add some color with paint if you felt so inclined.
This is such a simple but beautiful craft. Choose your favorite leaf from your collection and
various colors of paint. Cover the rough side of the leaf with one color or multiple colors. Before
it can dry, turn it upside down onto a plain paper. Press down to transfer the color onto the
paper. Carefully peel off the leaf. You can use multiple leaves and create a colorful tree, drawing
in the trunk or using pieces of bark to glue to your page.
Rocks in different shapes and sizes and some paint and brushes are all you need for this craft.
Clean any dirt off of the rocks. Paint on some black and yellow stripes for a bee or red with
black polka dots for a ladybug. To add a little pizzaz, use some other nature finds or pipe
cleaners to add legs or antenna.
As simple as the rock bugs, you just need acorns and paint. Clean them off, paint them
whatever color you desire, and draw faces on them, using the tops (cupule) as hats. You could
add string and turn them into necklaces.
Nature wind chime
To display all your finds, take two sticks and tie them in an “x” formation using twine or
yarn. Tie an extra piece on the center for hanging. Attach all your various items onto more string
and tie the string to the sticks so your nature hangs down. Hang the display outside your
window or in your room to enjoy.
The possibilities are endless, but hopefully, this list of simple nature crafts will get you
started and inspire more creativity using nature’s beautiful creation!
